Snail of Approval Committee & Volunteers
What is the Snail of Approval? Snail of Approval is a recognition given to any food business/organization — restaurants, farms, cafes, bars, wineries, farmers markets, social enterprises — that are pursuing and practicing Slow Food values of good, clean, fair food for all. The Slow Food community aims to create nationwide awareness that recognizes the impact of vital food organizations. As a locally adjudicated but internationally recognized program, Snail of Approval is a powerful recognition. More Information from Slow Food USA can be found HERE application details HERE and process details HERE
Unlike other food awards, Snail of Approval always awards locally and through the lens of a sustainable food system. Applicants are evaluated on Sourcing, Environmental Impact, Cultural Connection, Community Impact, Labor Practice, and Workplace Culture. We hope to celebrate the great achievements of local establishments as well as provide resources for them to continue their sustainability journey. The goal is to stimulate greater support for these important businesses—by eating, participating, volunteering, patronizing, donating, and spreading the word.
We have closed applications for SoA volunteers for the 2024 awards.
Slow Food For Thought: Foodways Education Series
Malcolm Gladwell, in his bestselling book Outliers, states “10,000 hours is the magic number of greatness.” Our curated Artisans and Chefs all have over 10,000 hours in their fields and are passionate and knowledgeable, real savants in their fields. Members and Guests have an opportunity to go behind the scenes with local Artisans and Chefs and experience a hands-on deep dive into a particular product or skill from these local experts.
An all-too-common question from a potential Slow Food member is, “what do I get for my membership?” While the shared ideals and goals of the Slow Food International mission should be the primary motivator, we have a tangible offer as well. The creation of “Slow Food For Thought: Foodways Education Series” bolsters both Slow Food Atlanta’s membership benefit offerings as well as its educational goals.
Our Slow Food for Thought: Foodways Education Series is connecting with the best of Atlanta’s growers, curators & artisans.
We are looking for 2 volunteers to assist our Events Co-Chairs with the Slow Food For Thought Foodways Education Series. We need Volunteers experienced with event management, managing Eventbrite ticketing and the day of event ticket check in and assisting our Social Chair running the event.
