The Slow Food movement was founded by Carlo Petrini in order to catalyze a broad cultural shift toward a more sustainable food system, regional food traditions, the pleasures of the table, and a slower and more harmonious rhythm of life. There is huge momentum for the movement, and the organizations below ascribe to similar values.

University of Gastronomic Sciences

The University of Gastronomic Sciences is an academic institution that has two campuses in Northern Italy. The main objective of the school is to bridge the gap between agricultural science and gastronomy.

Atlanta Local Food Initiative

The Atlanta Local Food Initiative (ALFI) is a network that joins individuals, corporations, non profits, universities, and governmental agencies to work together toward a locally based food system. ALFI’s mission is to create a regional food system that fosters strong local economies, enhances human health, promotes environmental renewal, and links rural and urban communities.

Terra Madre

Terra Madre is a network of food communities, each committed to producing quality food in a responsible, sustainable way. Terra Madre also refers to a major bi-annual conference held in Torino, Italy intended to foster discussion and introduce innovative concepts in the field of food, gastronomy, globalization, economics. Terra Madre is coordinated by the Slow Food organization.
